2. How important is an Alabama commercial driver's license?

It is imperative to own an Alabama commercial driver's license if you get paid for driving a 26,001-pound-or-more gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), or a 26,001-pound gross combination weight rating (GCWR) with a more-than-10,000-pound-GVWWR trailer.

You're expected to get the CDL in Alabama if you have to haul goods in this state, which means if you wish to drive a vehicle in another state, it's necessary to get a commercial driver's license in that place.

3. How to get an Alabama CDL?

The very first criteria to have a CDL license is to reach the legal age of 18 and above. Also, make sure that you will not be under one of these circumstances:

  • 36 months of suspension or revocation before applying for the CDL license
  • Applicants must not have incurred a six-point violation in the last 24 months or been convicted of driving impaired
  • Cancellation or denial of driver's license

On the other hand, the most important factor to possess a CDL License in Alabama is to pass the CDL written knowledge test and skills test. The CDL written test includes General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, and endorsements:

4. How much does it cost to get an Alabama CDL?

To successfully finish the CDL License application, you need to make a payment of $53.50 in terms of the CDL Class A vehicle, $43.50 in terms of the CDL Class B vehicle, or $23.50 in terms of the CDL Class C vehicle. 

5. How is an Alabama CDL test structured?

An Alabama CDL written knowledge test consists of 50 questions in total. Apart from the General Knowledge section, the sections that you will have to take are based on the Class type of CDL and vehicle type you are seeking for. Applicants need to score 80% or higher to pass the test, which is equivalent to 40 out of 50 questions.
