1. What is DC CDL?

If you are currently a resident of the District of Columbia and get paid for driving a commercial vehicle, then a credential that qualifies your driving ability and skills is a necessity. 2. How is a District of Columbia CDL exam structured?

  • Vision test: 20/40 visual acuity for each eye
  • Written knowledge test: 50 questions in the form of multiple-choice and True or False questions (you need to score at least 40 out of 50 correct questions to reach the passing score) 
  • Road/skills test: lasts approximately 30 minutes, includes safety techniques and motor vehicle laws

In the context of the written knowledge test, you are also required to take the appropriate endorsements depending on the class type of vehicle you’re operating and whether you will transfer hazardous materials or passengers within the state of the District of Columbia.

3. What are the requirements to obtain a CDL License in the District of Columbia?

  • Proof of valid age and identity (be at least 18 to drive a commercial vehicle intrastate and 21 or above to drive interstate)
  • Proof of parental approval if you are between the age of 16 and 17
